Nice Thunderstorm Near Omarama, Central Otago.

This great series of images was taken by Gary Roberts looking down into Ahuriri Valley just west of Lindis Pass, the sixth image from left to right is Lindis Pass. Here's what Gary wrote on the NZ Weather Forum:

Just west of the Lindis Pass and up the Ahuriri Valley is a small mountain I'm conducting a site survey upon. An excellent thunderstorm rolled in, featuring lots of freezing rain, and spectacular lightning strikes, of which I lost count after 100, and fled shrieking like a little girl for the safety (HA!) of the Landcruiser as these bolts and the thunder engulfed us. Great stuff.

Naturally my camera battery died just before the best stuff arrived...

Below thunderstorm estimated at about 150 km north of Waimauku, Auckland. So it's safe to say this is the Cb in the NOAA satellite pic for this day in Northland.
